Meet Sylvia Soto

I am a product of hard work, resilience, and public education. My parents came to this country seeking opportunity and a better future for their children. Those experiences shaped my commitment to education, opportunity, and community advocacy.

My father is a construction worker, and from him I learned the value of honest labor, sacrifice, and perseverance. As a first-generation college graduate, I earned five higher-education degrees, including a Bachelor of Science in Biology, three master’s degrees in business, and a master’s degree in bilingual education. I graduated with a 4.0 GPA and was a scholarship recipient.

For decades, I have served our community as an advocate and as a bilingual math and science teacher, working directly with students and families to create opportunity and equity. My commitment to service extends beyond the classroom. I am a lay lector at Mission San José, have served as an ombudsman, and have been an election judge for over ten years. I also served as a national congressional intern, gaining firsthand experience in public service and government.

I believe in a government that puts people first—focused on transparency, accountability, and integrity. I believe in investing in strong public schools, early childhood education, workforce and vocational training, and innovative approaches that prepare students for real-world success.

I also believe in easing the financial burden on working families and seniors. I will fight to eliminate property taxes for seniors age 65 and over, so they can retire in peace and dignity. Lowering taxes and lowering prices will help families stay in their homes, support small businesses, and stabilize our local economy. Eliminating property taxes can also help address homelessness by keeping families housed and strengthening community stability.

Strong communities require safety and opportunity. I support investing in law enforcement and our military while advancing smart economic policies that create jobs, strengthen education, and reduce poverty. Education is the pathway to employment, stability, and long-term economic growth.

San Antonio is the third poorest major city in the country, and District 124 includes ZIP code 78207, the highest overlooked zip code in San Antonio. These are not just statistics—they represent families who deserve better. Addressing poverty requires real solutions: education, jobs, public safety, and tax relief that puts people first.

I know many people have heard promises before—

I’ve heard them too. That’s why I don’t just talk; I show up. I listen, I engage, and I advocate directly for our community. My advocacy has always been about service, not politics.

Together, we can address the structural challenges facing our district and build a future grounded in opportunity, safety, and fairness for all. I look forward to earning your support and proudly representing District 124.

Respectfully,

Sylvia Soto
